Rexine Fabrics

PV matty, China raise and tricot warp knit for the rexine and coated fabric trade

The quality of a finished rexine is decided long before the coating line. The base cloth sets how the material stretches over a curve, how it behaves under a sewing needle, how the reverse feels in the hand and whether the coating stays bonded after a season of use. We supply the three constructions the Indian rexine trade runs on: PV matty for stable woven bases, China raise for a soft brushed reverse, and tricot warp knit where stretch and recovery matter. Each is made to your GSM, width, thickness and shade, in greige or dyed.

How to choose

Choosing rexine fabric for your product

The questions worth settling before you order, in the order they matter.

Woven or knitted base

A woven matty base holds its shape and resists stretching, which suits flat panels, bags, file covers and anything cut and stitched square. A knitted base gives and recovers, which suits sofa arms, car seats and any shape the material has to be pulled over.

Match the weight to the coating

The base carries the coating. A heavier PVC or PU layer needs a base with the body to support it without puckering, while a light base keeps a thin, soft rexine supple. Tell us the coating weight and end use and we will suggest the GSM.

Decide what the reverse should feel like

China raise is brushed to lift a soft pile, so the back of the finished rexine feels warm and cloth-like. That matters for seating, garments and anything that touches skin. For hidden or technical uses, an unraised base costs less.

Greige or dyed

Most coaters buy greige base and let the coating carry the colour. Where the reverse will be visible, or the coating is thin or translucent, dye the base to a matching shade so the cloth does not show through.

Questions

Rexine fabrics, frequently asked

What GSM of base fabric do you supply for rexine?

PV matty is regularly supplied from 90 to 180 GSM, and China raise and tricot are made to whatever weight your coating calls for. Tell us the finished rexine you are making and we will recommend a base weight, or match one you already use.

Can you match the base fabric I am buying now?

Yes. Send us a piece of your current base cloth, or a strip of finished rexine with the base visible. We match the construction, weight and width and send a sample for approval before any bulk order.

Do you supply dyed base fabric?

Yes, dyed to your shade or supplied greige. Dyeing to match the coating is worth it wherever the reverse of the finished product will be seen.

Is 'tricoat' the same as tricot?

Yes. Tricot is the correct name for fabric knitted on a tricot warp-knitting machine, and it is often written as tricoat in the trade. It is the same warp-knitted cloth.
