Quality
Quality, agreed in writing and checked on the cloth
A fabric is only right if it matches what was agreed. So we agree the figures up front, approve a physical sample before bulk, and welcome you checking what arrives.
How every order runs
Weight, width, thickness, composition and shade are confirmed in writing on the quotation, with the tolerance that applies.
You approve a physical sample before bulk, and a lab dip before any dyeing to shade.
Bulk is supplied against the approved sample, and repeat orders against the same specification.
You are welcome to test any lot independently, and we will arrange lab reports on request.
Check it yourself
Four checks you can run on any fabric, without a lab
A buyer who has checked a supplier once buys with far less friction afterwards.
Weight (GSM)
Cut an exact 10 cm x 10 cm square away from the selvedge and weigh it on a scale reading to 0.01 g. Multiply by 100 for GSM. Repeat on three pieces from across the width and average them.
Width
Lay the fabric flat without tension and measure edge to edge at several points along the roll. Note whether the agreed width includes the selvedge.
Shade
Compare the bulk against the approved swatch side by side in daylight, and again under shop lighting. Shades that match in one light and not the other need attention before cutting.
Shrinkage
Mark a 50 cm square on a piece of fabric, wash and dry it as the finished product will be, then re-measure. The change, as a percentage, is the shrinkage to allow for in your pattern.
Questions
Quality, frequently asked
What happens if a lot does not match the approved sample?
Tell us with the lot details and a piece of the fabric. We check it against the approved sample and the agreed figures, and put it right. That is the reason every order is approved against a physical sample first.
Can I have a fabric tested by a lab?
Yes, at any stage. We can also arrange tests for weight, composition, colour fastness and shrinkage from an accredited lab for a specific lot.
Why do you insist on physical approval for shades?
Because screens are unreliable. Monitor settings, lighting and image compression all shift colour, so shades are approved on a physical swatch or lab dip before any bulk dyeing.
